Mr. Berman has managed Berman Capital and the Durban Capital funds for twenty years, specializing in retailers and consumer companies. Research of nearly 200 retailers includes store visits, and extensive quantitative financial analysis with a focus on inventory philosophies as articulated in Mr. Berman’s Harvard Case Study, and the book “The New Science of Retailing”.
Prior to this, Mr. Berman was a portfolio manager (PM) with two leading funds. From 1994 to 1997 he was with Kingdon Capital, and from 1992 to 1994 with Steinhardt Partners.
After immigrating from South Africa, Mr. Berman obtained his CPA at Arthur Andersen & Co. in Los Angeles, and then went to Harvard Business School for his MBA where he graduated in 1991 (with distinction).
In 2005, Mr. Berman founded “Chess for Change” in South Africa, where over 300,000 children have since learned chess in school curriculums.
